Gasoline Spill from a Mobil Station at Ewing
New Jersey's General Ground Water Table

Student Volunteers Are Needed for Those Projects!!!.
  1.  Ground water and surface water interaction study: Drill a few water wells near the Centenial lake and to monitor, a), how the water levels at the lake and well change, b) how the water quality changes and the difference of chemicals between the two water bodies, c), modeling of the lake water and groundwater interaction with MODFLOW or Groundwater Graphics.

  2. a), Analysis of Gasoline spill data from a Getty Oil Station at Ocean County. MTBE and Benezne data and site characteristic analysis near a site at Ocean County. b), Gasoline spill analysis along the ROUTE 1 near Colonial lake, spill characters and property. Characterize the spill plumes. c), Modeling of the oil spill with HSSM. d), General MTBE and Benzene spill character analysis.

  3. Laboratory experiment of oil spill along an aquifer. A). Pressure-water level characteristic curve analysis. Examine how the viscosity affects the flow speed. B). Tank Experiment. Why does a sticky oil flow so slow? Which one of the followings flow faster in groundwater, motor oil or the cooking oil or water or gasoline at room temperature? How does the flow speed change with season? And by how much?

  4. General groundwater quality analysis of NJ: a) Mapping the chloride (for the salt water intrusion stuff), and nutrient, b), mapping the calcium and magnesium distribution along the NJ water bodies (surface and groundwater); c) mapping and analysis of radionuclide elements along the NJ water bodies to examine where you do not want to live in the state.

  5. Analysis of the water quality along a specific superfund site in NJ. NJ has more than 30 suferfund site. Check the DEP's web page, and collect some data and do the analysis.

  6. Landfill site analysis: How does a landfill affect the nearby groundwater quality.

  7. Groundwater recharge rate calculation in Delaware River Basin or Analysis of El Nino effect on precipitation in the area
    .
  8. How does the ocean tide affect the groundwater? Analyze the effect of ocean tide on groundwater fluctuation near Atlantic City or Cape May area with the 60-minutes groundwater and tidal data! Or The Chesapeake Bay Data.

  9. Mercer county's water aquifer and aquifer yield analysis. How much water can I pump out and what is the well yield, how deep does a reasonable drinking water well need to go?

  10.
  11. Wetland Hydrology study at National Wildlife Refuge in Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge. SOil, hydrology and ecosystem analysis (see the EBF Wildlief Refuge Project for detail).

  12. Other projects you have in mind, I will assist you to get started.  New ideas are always welcome!

  13.  How do the earthquake waves, tidal wave, oil spill have in common? Can I predict earthquakes with Bacteria???
